Above 30°C, broilers trade eating for heat dissipation. You cannot air-condition your way out on most farms — but you can make every bite count and every bite appealing.
Steps
- Shift feeding to cool hours. Front-load feed access to early morning and late evening; withdraw during peak heat to avoid metabolic heat load from digestion.
- Protect feed freshness. Heat accelerates fat oxidation and rancid feed suppresses intake further. VSW5 at 100-300 g/T in complete feed holds palatability through the hot chain.
- Add an appetite signal. A sucrose-like sweetener (VS3965, 60-180 g/T) stimulates appetite and digestive secretion — field programs in Southeast Asia target the 5-10% intake recovery band.
- Watch water first. Hot birds drink before they eat; cool, clean water at adequate flow is the precondition for any feed-side measure.
- Track and adjust weekly. Plot daily intake against house temperature; if the gap persists after two weeks, review stocking density and ventilation before adding more additive.
Common mistakes
- Raising energy density without emulsification or freshness protection — oxidized fat undoes the gain
- Changing three things at once, learning nothing
- Treating additives as a substitute for ventilation basics
