Silica

High ink absorption and sharp dot definition for inkjet and multicolor printing papers.

Overview

The porous layer that makes prints sharp

Coated printing papers rely on a porous ink-receiving layer to absorb ink instantly and lock pigments at the surface. SILSEP printing media silica offers high pore volume, controlled particle size and high purity for coating formulations that print sharp and dry instantly.

How It Works

The principle

When an ink droplet lands on coated media, capillary forces pull the liquid vehicle into the silica pore network within milliseconds, while dye and pigment are retained at the surface. Rapid vehicle removal prevents dot spread between adjacent droplets — the sharper the absorption, the crisper the printed dot and the faster the handling dryness.
